Free Agency

8/1/2026 • Remi Rainville

It's time for free agency but first, thank you all for your sense of urgency during the draft.  The process went better than ever and it's no coincidence that Justin joined us just prior.  Big thanks to Randy, Steve and Justin who made things happen quickly.  Participation levels are pretty good considering the summer months are upon us so thanks to all of you who keep checking in and keeping things interesting.

There was a time when I mattered around here but now I'll simply reposte the awesome AI generated template for free agency that Steve provided me and go hang myself (nothing to do with my shitty roster).  If you have any questions about what you're reading please reach out.  Put it on the general thread because if you have a question chances are someone else has the same one.

Bidding:

A GM can bid on five players per round.  There is only one round of bidding and the highest bid wins.  In the event of a tie, the player will sign with the team that finished lowest in the regular standings the previous season.  If you change your mind you can modify/cancel an offer anytime prior to the deadline.  After the first round is over the winners will be announced and we will repeat the process until most GMs are satisfied.  After the bidding rounds a GM can sign a free agent at anytime by sending a message to Randy.

Bidding Format:

All bids will be sent to stevenwhite@hotmail.com.  Please send all your offers in one email with all five of your bids.  Your bid should resemble this:  Cheats McLiarsmith 4 years @ 8 million = 32 million TOS (total overall salary).

The free agent will sign with the team that offers the most money over the length of the contract.  For example:

Ben Dover - 4 years @ 3 million = 12 million TOS

Ben Dover - 1 year @ 10 million = 10 million TOS

In this situation Ben will sign for 12 million over 4 years despite that making no sense at all in reality.

No bonuses, trade clauses or perks.

Salary:

The salary cap floor is 65 million and the ceiling is 104 million.  The max salary for a player is 20% of the cap or 20.8 million per season.  Contract length can be from 1 to 4 years.  Players 35 and older can only sign for three years maximum.  During the off season (now) a team can go over the cap by 10% (10.4 million) as long as they are within the cap limits by the first preseason game.  Players that have retired or died can still be offered a contract but only for 1 year.  Any player making 2 million+ must play on the pro team.

Farm Rules:

A player 69OV or less can be sent to the farm.  A goalie 74OV or less can be sent to the farm.  The maximum salary for a farm player is 1,999,999 million per season.  Any free agent 64OV or less can be signed for a maximum salary of 1,999,999 million per season (this prevents cap circumvention).

Good luck to everyone.  If you can't make the cap floor do not panic and do something stupid.  All teams have until the next trade deadline to be cap compliant.  I look forward to competing with all of you.  This is by far the best group of guys we've ever had and winning a cup in this environement is truly an accomplishment so thank you for being a part of it.
