Since the League re-boot, I haven't made a lot of roster changes.
This season however, the Sabres did bring in Alex Tuch and Jaccob Slavin in a pair of trades.
Both additions have helped the Tufhl Sabres post a 44-23-5 record, which is 10 wins more than the train-wreck NHL franchise. And the Tufhl Sabres find themselves as a playoff contender, which is something the NHL counterpart hasn't acheived in well over a decade.
Fortunately for the Tufhl Sabres, players that have left the NHL team have gone on to have much success. Jack Eichel won a Cup, Sam Reinhart just put up a 50 goal season, Brandon Montour put up 73 points in Florida and Linus Ullmark won a Vezina Trophy with the rival Bruins. Imagine how good the NHL Sabres would be if they had kept all those guys to play along with Dahlin, Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozens, Owen Power, JJ Peterka and UPL. The lesson that is playing out is that teams must keep the talent they have and develop the Draft picks they make if they want to find sustained success.
And while I did give up a late first and a second round picks in '24, I believe that the depth already developing on the farm will help keep the Tufhl Sabres competitive for many more seasons. Goaltending seems set for the next decade with UPL and Ullmark. Look for the Sabres to be more active next season.
