Montreal adds depth

3/7/2026 • Remi Rainville

The Montreal Canadiens managment decided this team was good enough to compete but not good enough to win without some support.  GM Rainville once again decided to mortgage the future in hopes of hoisting another cup before that troll Steve does.  Coming in are pending free agents Chris Kreider and Neil Pionk.  Neil can skate and helps bolster a young defense that sometimes looks lost out there on the ice.  William Karlsson was also brought in to help win the draws and kill penalties.  He has another year left on his contract.

Sadly these players came at a cost.  Young Barrett Hayton and Jayden Struble found themselves heading out along with a Chi 2nd and the contract for Max Pacioretty.  The Habs are in a better position than other years heading into the playoffs.  Our new acquisitions will play further down the depth chart and allow us to have experienced players on every line.  Now these players are rentals on top of other rentals so we can expect the Habs to be active in free agency to try to fill the gaping holes that will be left when these players depart.  No good draft picks left and a weak prospect pool.  In Montreal the fans are hoping that today's joy is worth tomorrow's pain.
